Deadline Date: July 21, 2026
The CoSTAR Live Lab is seeking applications to support innovative projects that develop intelligent technologies for live performance and shared experiences.
The programme focuses on Intelligent Venues that use adaptive, data-driven technologies to sense, interpret, and respond in real time. Priority areas include sensor-based tracking, data analytics, AI-driven control of stage, set, acoustic, audio, visual, and lighting systems; interactive and personalised audience experiences; intelligent stage management, automation, and modular venue design; and scalable business models for live and hybrid productions, including streaming and virtual spaces.
Applicants can apply for grants ranging from £20,000 to £50,000 to develop prototypes, test new technologies, and demonstrate proof-of-concept projects. In addition to funding, each selected project can receive up to 20 days of access to CoSTAR Live Lab’s research and development facilities and technical expertise at Production Park.
The programme has a total budget of £100,000 and expects to support between two and five projects based in the United Kingdom. It is open to consortia led by UK-based companies, including creative technology companies, live events producers, hardware and software developers, and performance innovators.
Projects must demonstrate how the proposed research and development will create commercial opportunities and explain why access to CoSTAR Live Lab’s facilities and expert support is essential. Successful projects are expected to produce tangible outcomes such as early-stage prototypes or proof-of-concept demonstrations.
Grant funding may be used for eligible research and development costs, including staff time, hardware and software development, materials, testing, travel, subsistence, and third-party subcontracting. Selected projects will also receive technical consultancy, creative production support, systems integration assistance, and access to a wider network of industry and academic specialists. Projects may also have the opportunity to participate in a public industry showcase at Production Park.
