The National Film and Video Foundation is inviting applications to support the creation and development of South African screen content through funding for film and television projects.
The focus areas include film development, script development, production funding, post-production, archive funding, screen content creation, storytelling, skills development, job creation, and industry growth.
The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) has opened applications for its 2026/2027 funding cycle to support the development and production of South African film and television content. The programme is designed to assist filmmakers at different stages of their careers.
Development funding supports the transformation of ideas into production-ready projects through research, concept creation, and script development. Production funding supports the creation of high-quality screen content for both local and international audiences.
The programme also includes post-production and archive funding, ensuring that projects are completed to industry standards. Together, these funding streams aim to strengthen the South African film industry and promote cultural storytelling.
Applicants are grouped into tiers based on experience, ranging from established filmmakers with multiple feature films to emerging filmmakers and recent graduates. Each tier is designed to support different levels of industry experience and project types.
Certain applicants are excluded, including those with multiple active NFVF-funded projects, those already contracted under the same funding category, student productions owned by institutions, and applications that do not meet eligibility requirements.
