The Greenovation Urban Climate Resilience Challenge is seeking applications from startups, innovators, and social entrepreneurs to develop and scale affordable solutions that strengthen urban climate resilience across Indian cities.
The focus areas include heat and built environment solutions, air quality monitoring, mobility and waste systems, climate-resilient livelihoods, health and inclusion, water and food systems, urban farming, climate finance tools, and integrated climate data platforms.
The challenge aims to identify and support innovations that address urban climate risks such as heat stress, air pollution, water scarcity, and food system vulnerabilities. It focuses on scalable and context-specific solutions that improve climate resilience in cities.
The programme promotes innovation in heat resilience through solutions like cool roofs, passive cooling systems, climate-resilient public spaces, and urban heat mapping tools. It also supports innovations in clean air, mobility, waste management, and emission control systems to improve urban environmental quality.
Another key priority is strengthening livelihoods, health, and social inclusion through heat-safe livelihood tools, community cooling hubs, micro-insurance for climate risks, and women-led climate enterprises that support vulnerable populations.
The initiative also focuses on improving water and food system resilience through decentralized water solutions, restoration of urban water bodies, solar cold storage systems, and urban farming approaches that enhance food security.
In addition, the programme encourages data-driven and financial innovations, including climate data platforms, decision-support tools for cities, carbon and impact credit systems, and climate fintech solutions that support urban planning and resilience investment.
Selected participants receive funding support of up to ₹20 lakh, along with a residential bootcamp, incubation opportunities, mentorship, and potential investment support of up to ₹1 crore. The programme also offers scale-up support, technical guidance, and access to a national climate innovation network.
The challenge is open to startups and social entrepreneurs developing prototype, pilot-tested, or market-ready solutions applicable to the Indian urban context, with a focus on full-time founders and registered entities within the last ten years.
