The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas is excited to announce the 2nd edition of Avinya – Energy Startup Challenge to promote Indian startups in the energy sector.
Aims
- The initiative aims to draw focus on innovation, socio-economic impact, sustainability, diversity, and contribution to the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
- Based on the overwhelming success of Avinya’24, they are launching Avinya’25 this year with the objective to encourage entrepreneurs, research enthusiasts, academicians, and students to innovate solutions and foster groundbreaking ideas & technologies that can shape the energy sector of the future.
Focus Areas
- Avinya’25 will continue to focus on last edition’s themes across oil and gas value chain, low-carbon fuels, and low-carbon technologies, along with the continued focus on functional topics such as operations, HSE, digital, technology, trading, energy efficiency, capability building, and Industry 4.0. In addition, Avinya’25 aims to broaden outreach by incorporating new topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning applications, advanced battery technologies, and sustainable financing solutions.

- Themes for Challenges:
- Across Oil and Gas Value Chain – Upstream, Midstream, and Downstream
- Low-carbon fuels – Biofuels, Green Hydrogen
- Low carbon technology – CCUS, E-Mobility, Battery Technology
- All Functional areas across these sectors such as financing, operations, AI, ML, digital, tech, etc.

- Fiscal Incentives
- The top 3 winners of Avinya will receive cash prizes of INR 3 lacs, INR 2 lacs, and INR 1 lac respectively

Eligibility Criteria
- Open to the citizens of India
- Stage of Startup: Ideation or Early-Stage (where early stage includes Bootstrapped/ Pre-seed/ Series A/Series B/Series C)
- Startups to have a maximum of 10 years (as of 1st Jan’25) from the date of incorporation and turnover of less than 100 CR
- The startups should be operating in the energy value chain as described under themes and problem statement
- An entity formed by splitting up or reconstruction of an existing business shall not be considered a Start-up.
