The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is offering seed grants of up to 8,000 euros to media outlets in Thailand and Indonesia to launch new media programming on business engagement with climate change, with applications open until November 10, 2025, to strengthen awareness and accountability in climate action efforts.
The objective of these grants is to increase the capacity of the media in Thailand and Indonesia to provide innovative and solutions-oriented information on business and private sector engagement with climate change to the public and policymakers. The grants are intended to seed new programs, columns or sections that focus on these issues. EJN is looking to support media programming ideas that provide information on climate financing and carbon trading as solutions to climate change; climate action as an opportunity for innovation and growth, such as renewable energy projects, circular economy and green tech; exposing greenwashing in the private sector; enforcement of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks and their role in climate action; and innovations and challenges facing different industries due to climate change – such as the food and agriculture, transportation, construction and energy sectors.
EJN’s Business and Climate Media Initiative aims to strengthen the role of journalism in addressing climate change by supporting new and innovative reporting initiatives. These seed grants will help media organizations design and pilot new programs that produce at least five stories or episodes focused on business and climate issues. Selected organizations will be expected to continue the activities beyond the grant period, integrating them into their existing media programming for sustained impact.
The initiative recognizes Asia’s significant contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions and emphasizes the private sector’s responsibility in climate action. Through increased and high-quality media coverage, the project seeks to enhance public understanding, foster accountability, and encourage constructive dialogue around business-led climate initiatives. EJN especially values proposals that amplify the perspectives of marginalized communities and promote fair and equitable transitions to net zero.
Eligible applicants include newspapers, online media, radio, television, multimedia platforms, and social media channels operating in Thailand or Indonesia. Applications can be submitted in English, Thai, or Bahasa Indonesia, and selected grantees will also receive mentorship from senior journalists or subject-matter experts throughout the 12-month grant period starting January 2026.
Applicants must submit a detailed budget using the provided template and ensure that expenses are reasonable and directly linked to project goals. Equipment purchases are allowed but should form a small portion of the total budget. Projects that include published content must acknowledge EJN support using the official tagline.
The judging panel will assess proposals based on overall quality, relevance, innovation, sustainability, and the applicant’s ability to execute the project effectively. Successful applicants will be notified in December 2025, with projects to be completed by December 2026.
