The Trade Accelerator Stream of the Starter Company Plus Grant offers targeted training and support for Toronto small businesses to build export capacity and accelerate growth in international markets.
This stream provides businesses with targeted training and support to help them build export capacity and accelerate growth in international markets. Applicant requirements include being a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, at least 18 years old, not attending school during the program, spending at least 35 hours per week on the business, not enrolled in another government-funded employment program, and being a Toronto resident with proof of physical address. Business requirements are: incorporation under the Canada or Ontario Business Corporations Act, for-profit status, active Business Number, matching commercial bank account, minimum two years of operation, proof of majority ownership, Toronto location, no prior similar grants, current certification or license if needed, year-round operations with consistent revenue, commitment to training, and having invested 25 percent of the grant amount ($1,250) already. Ineligible entities include individuals, other support programs, PR or marketing agencies, subsidiaries, and previous grant recipients.
The Trade Accelerator Stream is a highly competitive program aimed at supporting Toronto-based businesses as they grow into new international markets. Successful applicants get special business training, mentorship, and a $5,000 micro-grant to accelerate their global reach.
Eligibility is assessed on business viability, proof of concept, customer demand, a clear revenue model, growth potential, and sufficient startup investment. Only successful applicants will be contacted, and selection does not guarantee funding.
