Britam Betalab Regional Startup Challenge 2025 is a 4-week venture development bootcamp targeting hi-tech, high-potential startups and founders across Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda, aiming to identify innovative solutions fitting within the insurance value chain.
Britam Betalab is looking to identify hi-tech, high-potential startups and founders building innovative solutions fitting within the insurance value-chain across the following industries: FinTech – looking for digital financial solutions that improve access to credit, savings, payments, embedded finance, and financial literacy, especially for underserved individuals and SMEs; Insurtech – seeking technologies that simplify insurance access, underwriting, distribution, and claims management; Agritech – solutions that digitize agriculture value chains, enhance productivity, or improve farmer access to inputs, markets, or insurance; Retail and Supply Chain – innovations and tools that improve retail access to credit or insurance; Healthtech – exploring partnerships that link health services to micro-health insurance, telemedicine, or digital health wallets to help reduce out-of-pocket health costs and expand protection.
The Britam Betalab challenge is structured as a comprehensive 4-week venture bootcamp where 15 high-potential startups (5 from each participating country) will receive mentorship and leadership development delivered by successful founders, industry leaders, domain experts, and investors from Britam Leadership and Hindsight Ventures global network. The program supports startups in establishing or refining venture development processes, building industry connections, expanding international networks, and engaging with a peer community.
Startups eligible for this challenge must operate in Tanzania, Rwanda, or Uganda, leverage technology (software, hardware, or a combination), and address one or more of the listed focus areas. Applicants must have a registered entity in any of the three countries and be operational for a minimum of 24 months.
Selection criteria include scope and readiness of technology for scaling, differentiation from existing solutions, traction in home or other emerging markets, business potential to scale, and other relevant factors deemed necessary. Successful participants will benefit from a virtual demo day, partnership opportunities, and $600,000 in technology credits, providing strong support to advance their solutions.
