Deadline: September 29, 2025
The Manufacturing Technology Adoption Program aims to accelerate the adoption of transformative technologies in South Australian advanced manufacturing to increase product development, new market entry, and improve productivity.
The Program focuses on accelerating the adoption of transformative technologies relevant to advanced manufacturing, supporting SME manufacturers to develop new or enhanced products, enter new markets, and improve productivity and competitiveness through technological innovation.
The Program is part of the South Australian Research and Innovation Fund and aligns with the state’s Advanced Manufacturing Strategy and Economic Statement, which emphasize embracing technology and driving innovation for economic transition towards a knowledge-based, resilient, and greener economy. It targets small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises with fewer than 200 employees that carry out manufacturing activities in South Australia. The Program offers competitive grants of up to $50,000 matched on a 1:1 basis by the applicant for projects involving technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented and virtual reality, additive manufacturing, robotics, machine learning, Internet of Things, blockchain, optics and photonics, quantum technologies, and other Industry 4.0 technologies. Funding supports discrete technical projects that enhance products or processes, enable new markets, or boost competitiveness, with projects to be completed by May 30, 2026.
Eligible project expenditures include direct costs related to the implementation of innovative technologies, encouraging the use of local suppliers. Business-as-usual activities, retrospective funding, routine training, and general overhead costs are excluded. Applicants must submit a detailed project plan, financial statements, and evidence of co-contribution ability to apply. Applications are assessed competitively based on contribution to Program objectives, applicant capability, and rationale for government support. Successful applicants enter into formal grant agreements with milestone-based payments and reporting obligations.
The Program also leverages support from South Australian research and innovation facilities, including university-based centers focused on Industry 4.0, virtual environments, photonics, machine learning, and manufacturing innovation, facilitating collaboration and risk reduction for technology adoption. This initiative represents a significant opportunity for South Australian manufacturers to enhance innovation capacity and competitiveness through cutting-edge technologies.
