Deadline Date: July 05, 2026
The Screen Tasmania provides production support through one-off grants or equity investment to strengthen the development of film, television, animation, documentary, factual and interactive media projects.
The program focuses on supporting feature films, television drama series, miniseries and telemovies, factual and documentary productions, narrative projects for online platforms, and games or interactive projects seeking investment of $30,000 or more, with clear thresholds determining whether support is provided as a grant or equity investment along with requirements for Tasmanian production spend, industry participation and creative involvement.
The Production Support program offers a minimum of $30,000 in funding, where projects receiving up to $50,000 are supported as non-recoupable grants, while projects above $50,000 are structured as equity investments on a pro-rata basis with other financiers. Funding decisions are competitive and assessed individually, with no guarantee of maximum support for all applicants.
Eligible applicants must be Australian-incorporated companies actively operating in Australia, holding necessary production rights and meeting eligibility requirements outlined in the program guidelines. Applications must demonstrate strong finance structures, clear rights ownership or chain of title arrangements, and alignment with Australian content or official co-production status where applicable. Projects must also ensure substantial production or post-production activity within Tasmania, with additional requirements for minimum local expenditure ratios depending on funding level and project type.
For lower-value funding requests under $50,000, the majority of expenditure must be directed toward eligible Tasmanian goods and services. For higher-value investments above $50,000, live-action scripted projects must meet a 4:1 Tasmanian spend-to-investment ratio, while factual, animation and interactive projects must meet a 3:1 ratio, ensuring significant economic benefit to the state’s screen industry.
The program also requires the engagement of mandatory attachments for at least 20 days under relevant industry awards, with an option for a single key creative attachment for 40 days when applicable. These roles contribute toward eligible Tasmanian expenditure, and additional attachment opportunities may be supported through complementary trainee programs or direct production costs, with double spend recognition where applicable.
Successful applicants are also required to conduct at least one casting session in Tasmania to provide opportunities for local actors, ensuring participation at a level no lower than minor speaking roles and further strengthening the state’s creative ecosystem.
