The European Commission is seeking applications to support the development of inland waterway transport infrastructure projects on the TEN-T core network.
The focus areas of this call include the upgrading of inland waterways and related infrastructure such as locks, weirs, and dams to achieve stable or improved navigation conditions, enhance performance, increase vessel passage capacity, and ensure good navigation status. The call also supports the creation of new waterways and associated infrastructure, including locks, weirs, dams, and bridges.
Under this funding opportunity, they will support works aimed at modernising and expanding inland waterway infrastructure across the TEN-T core network. Eligible activities include upgrading existing waterways and related infrastructure to improve navigation conditions and increase operational efficiency. Projects involving the construction of new waterways and associated infrastructure are also supported.
The total budget available under the call is EUR 350,000,000. The maximum EU contribution per grant agreement is capped at EUR 30,000,000 for projects located in a single Member State, EUR 70,000,000 for projects located in two Member States, and EUR 100,000,000 for projects located in more than two Member States. Proposals requesting amounts above these limits will be considered ineligible.
Eligible applicants must be legal entities, either public or private bodies, established in EU Member States, including overseas countries and territories, or in countries associated with the CEF Programme. International organisations are also eligible to participate. Self-employed persons may participate where the company does not have a legal personality separate from that of the natural person.
Entities without legal personality may exceptionally participate if their representatives can undertake legal obligations on their behalf and provide equivalent guarantees for the protection of EU financial interests. Entities from non-eligible countries may exceptionally participate if their involvement is considered essential for implementing the action. EU bodies, except for the European Commission Joint Research Centre, cannot be part of the consortium.
