The National Capital District Commission has launched applications for the 2026 Community Action Grants to fund community-led initiatives that support local development in Port Moresby.
The program focuses on inclusive social development, sustainable livelihoods, circular economy and waste management, urban resilience and local leadership, transparency and local governance, innovation and knowledge sharing, MSME empowerment, youth and women participation, and community-driven development aligned with city planning goals.
The Community Grant Program is administered by the Economic & Business Development Branch under the Social Development Directorate of the National Capital District Commission. It aims to promote community action by supporting MSMEs, encouraging inclusive participation, and contributing to the development of a clean, safe, planned, and livable city.
The program supports empowerment of community MSMEs and strengthening of local trade, while ensuring that women’s and youth associations take active leadership roles. It also promotes community-led solutions that support grassroots economic growth and align with the broader development vision of the city.
Eligible projects must address key priority areas such as inclusive social development including women and youth leadership, GBV prevention, and WASH services; sustainable livelihoods through MSME growth, start-up incubation, and expanded market access; circular economy initiatives including recycling, waste management, and community hygiene; urban resilience through safety networks and disaster preparedness; transparency and governance improvements; and innovation through technology and knowledge sharing.
Each approved project may receive funding of up to K10,000, depending on project feasibility and available funds. The grant supports practical, community-focused initiatives that demonstrate clear impact and alignment with program objectives.
Eligibility is open to registered associations, NGOs, churches, and SMEs operating within the National Capital District. Applicants must be registered with relevant authorities, have an active bank account, demonstrate community support, and present a clear implementation plan showing expected community benefits.
