Deadline Date: May 31, 2026
The Sustainability Grants program by the City of Newcastle supports initiatives that strengthen environmental outcomes by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing climate resilience, and promoting circular economy practices.
The program focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing resilience to the impacts of climate change, and promoting circular economy initiatives.
The Sustainability Grants program provides funding ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 (excluding GST) per application to support practical and community-driven environmental projects. It is designed to encourage local action that contributes to a more sustainable and climate-resilient Newcastle.
Eligible applicants include legally constituted not-for-profit organisations, small businesses, voluntary-run groups, and individuals who are auspiced by an eligible entity. This ensures that a wide range of community participants can access funding to implement impactful sustainability projects.
Supported activities include initiatives that encourage the adoption of electric vehicles, solar energy systems, batteries, and energy efficiency measures, as well as electrification projects. Funding may also be used for installing solar panels or battery systems on community buildings, helping reduce energy costs and emissions.
The program also supports educational and engagement activities, such as workshops, tools, and resources tailored for culturally and linguistically diverse communities. In addition, projects that promote waste reduction and circular economy practices are encouraged, including upcycling and repair events or transforming collected waste into useful products.
