The DeepStart is a three-month accelerator program designed to support early-stage teams developing breakthrough deep tech innovations grounded in scientific research.
The focus areas of the program include deep technology commercialisation, research-driven innovation, scientific and engineering breakthroughs, startup development, early-stage venture building, and industry-connected technology solutions across sectors such as critical minerals, energy systems, mining technologies, advanced manufacturing, and AI-enabled tools.
The program is designed to accelerate research projects and early-stage companies by helping them transform scientific discoveries into commercially viable, industry-connected, and investment-ready ventures. It supports teams working at the intersection of research and entrepreneurship, with a strong emphasis on scaling innovation from lab to market.
DeepStart offers a range of benefits to participants, including a $5,000 grant to support early validation and investment readiness, access to a $500,000 funding pool for venture development, and participation in a two-day interstate immersion at Tech23 in collaboration with Cicada Innovations. Participants may also access global opportunities through Greentown Labs, along with mentorship from international, national, and local experts in commercialisation, funding, and partnerships. Additional support includes a sponsored place at Curtin Ignition, a five-day entrepreneurship program.
The program is designed for early-stage Australian teams, including researchers developing commercially viable technologies, startups working on scientific or engineering innovations, and SMEs creating technology-enabled business models. It is particularly focused on supporting projects in areas such as critical minerals, energy transition, mining technologies, advanced manufacturing, and AI-driven productivity solutions.
