Deadline Date: May 19, 2026
The European Commission is requesting applications to develop a lightweight, reliable liquid hydrogen tank for hydrogen-powered aircraft to improve safety and efficiency.
The focus of this call is on developing a reliable and safe hydrogen tank design at TRL4, achieving a gravimetric index of no less than 40%, demonstrating dormancy of no less than 12 hours, and validating performance through on-ground cryogenic and tightness testing.
This initiative seeks to advance hydrogen aviation by ensuring that storage solutions are both lightweight and dependable, supporting the integration of hydrogen propulsion systems into future aircraft concepts. Successful projects will demonstrate that their tank designs meet rigorous safety and operational standards while optimizing weight and energy retention.
Eligible participants include any legal entity, regardless of location, including entities from non-associated third countries and international organizations, provided they meet Horizon Europe regulations and any specific requirements outlined in the call. Legal entities may act in their own name and exercise rights and obligations or may participate without formal legal personality.
Funding for this program amounts to €329,500,000, aiming to support cutting-edge innovations in hydrogen storage technologies for aviation and foster collaboration across international stakeholders.
