The governments of Canada and Taiwan is inviting grant applications to support collaborative industrial research and development projects between Canadian and Taiwanese enterprises with strong potential for innovation and commercialization.
The focus areas, collaborative R&D between Canadian SMEs and Taiwanese partners, commercialization of innovative and technology-driven products, services, or processes, international market expansion, protection and management of intellectual property rights, and multi-year joint project implementation while maintaining operational continuity.
In Canada, this call for proposals is offered through NRC IRAP in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, which is responsible for managing funding agreements. Selected Canadian SMEs may receive up to 50% reimbursement of total project costs, with a maximum funding of $500,000 CAD over 12 to 30 months, and projects must end by March 31, 2029. In Taiwan, the call is offered by the Department of Industrial Technology in partnership with the Industrial Technology Research Institute, with funding provided by DoIT and project facilitation handled by ITRI.
Eligible applicants must form a consortium that includes at least one incorporated Canadian SME and one eligible Taiwanese partner. All consortium members must be unrelated parties and must agree on intellectual property and commercialization plans. Individuals and organizations involved in the project must confirm they have no affiliation with entities listed on the Named Research Organization list.
Canadian SME applicants must be incorporated, profit-oriented companies with 500 or fewer full-time equivalent employees, have been in operation for at least 12 months, and employ a minimum of five full-time equivalent employees in Canada. They must focus on developing and commercializing innovative, technology-driven products, services, or processes, have a differentiated and protectable technology with global commercial potential, and demonstrate financial and operational capacity to conduct multi-year international R&D collaborations while maintaining regular operations. Preference may be given to SMEs with at least 15 full-time employees, prior international commercialization experience, and more than $500,000 CAD in annual sales revenue.
