The Ignition Fund is a competitive funding programme designed to support entrepreneurs in developing and launching innovative business ventures or new products by providing seed capital to transform ideas into viable businesses.
The programme focuses on supporting startup business activities, product development and refinement, marketing and market research, intellectual property development, professional and consulting services such as legal and incorporation support, business development activities, and capital purchases required for launching innovative ventures.
The fund is intended to encourage innovation-driven entrepreneurship and support the creation of new businesses that can contribute to economic growth and international market expansion.
The Ignition Fund, administered by Innovation PEI, provides seed funding of up to $25,000 to successful applicants without requiring matching contributions. The programme aims to support early-stage innovators in turning concepts into tangible businesses with strong market potential and growth prospects.
Applications are evaluated based on several key factors including the experience of the founding and management team, the quality and innovation of the proposed product or service, market potential and expected uptake, and overall business growth prospects. Not all eligible applications will receive funding, as selection is competitive and based on available information and assessment criteria.
To be eligible, projects must be committed to establishing and operating in Prince Edward Island, and must offer an innovative or unique product or service with strong export potential. Applicants must not have previously received certain forms of support such as the PEI Labour Rebate or earlier rounds of the Ignition Fund, nor support from specified related programmes.
