The focus areas, of this program include non-invasive and continuous health monitoring, surgical precision and automation, clinical assessment and ICU management, precision diagnostics and point-of-care solutions, medical electronics innovation, cyber-physical systems in healthcare, and resilience and security in medical infrastructure.
The i-MEC program is a national-level initiative focused on addressing critical healthcare challenges through innovation in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and Medical Electronics. It is implemented by IIT Palakkad Technology IHub Foundation in collaboration with the Technology Innovation Foundation of IIT Palakkad, known as TECHIN.
The programme is designed to translate clinically validated problem statements into innovative technology solutions. These challenges were identified through consultations with doctors, clinicians, hospitals, and healthcare professionals to address unmet needs in healthcare delivery and medical systems.
Selected participants receive comprehensive support including funding assistance, prototyping support, engineering and product development guidance, mentoring, testing and validation support, clinical inputs, ecosystem connections, and market access support to enable successful development and deployment of solutions.
The initiative encourages participation from startups, innovators, researchers, doctors, clinicians, and faculty members. It also promotes collaboration with ecosystem partners such as the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Kerala Medical Technology Consortium (KMTC), and NSRCEL-IIM Bangalore to strengthen clinical validation and innovation outcomes.
The program provides funding support of up to INR 25 lakhs for selected innovations aimed at addressing the identified healthcare focus areas.
