The Cadent Gas Ltd is seeking innovative low-emission vehicle and integrated power solutions to support the transition away from diesel-based operational fleets while ensuring safe and reliable gas network maintenance.
The initiative also prioritises hazardous-environment-compatible tooling solutions that can be powered directly from vehicle systems and match or exceed the performance of existing diesel-powered equipment used in gas network repair and maintenance activities, including road breakers, cutting equipment, pumps, soil-handling tools, and safety-critical systems. All proposed solutions are expected to demonstrate a Technology Readiness Level of 6 or above and be capable of pilot deployment within a 24-month timeframe.
This opportunity is aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of integrated vehicle-tool systems that maintain operational reliability across urban and rural environments, including wet, muddy, and confined excavation sites, while ensuring safe operation near live gas infrastructure and in potentially hazardous atmospheres without introducing ignition risks.
The programme is open to established businesses, academic institutions, start-ups, SMEs, and individual entrepreneurs that are based in the United Kingdom or intending to establish a UK presence. Solutions will be evaluated on their relevance to the operational challenge, feasibility, economic viability, level of innovation, readiness for deployment, organisational credibility, and strength of the proposed commercial model.
Successful applicants may be invited to present their solutions directly to Cadent Gas Ltd, with selected technologies progressing to pilot trials and potential long-term adoption across operational fleets. Additional support may include innovation guidance, prototype development assistance, technical support, participation in industry events, potential commercial collaboration, and investor introductions where relevant.
