Deadline Date: September 22, 2026
The European Commission is inviting applications to support innovative projects that strengthen the efficiency, sustainability and scalability of separation and purification processes in industrial biorefineries.
The initiative focuses on enhancing competitiveness, efficiency, sustainability, circularity, and safety of industrial biorefineries while advancing efficient, selective, and scalable separation and purification technology platforms that can be integrated into existing or new systems, alongside ensuring the purity and stability of intermediates and products compatible with further conversion requirements.
In addition, projects are required to include the application of the Safe and Sustainable by Design framework developed by the European Commission to assess the sustainability of the resulting biorefinery products. Applicants must also demonstrate complementarities with past and ongoing research and innovation initiatives funded under relevant European programmes, ensuring alignment and avoiding duplication.
The total budget for this topic is €6.5 million under a broader programme budget of €170,760,699.00. Eligibility is open to any legal entity regardless of its country of establishment, including entities from non-associated third countries and international organisations, provided they meet the conditions outlined in the Horizon Europe Regulation.
Applicants must register in the Participant Register to obtain a Participant Identification Code and complete validation before signing the grant agreement. Affiliated entities, associated partners, and entities without legal personality may participate under specific conditions, while EU bodies and the Joint Research Centre may also be involved depending on the project scope.
