RFAs: Albergo Diffuso for Sustainable Agro-Cultural Tourism in Palestine

Deadline Date: May 4, 2026

The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) in collaboration with UNESCO and FAO is implementing an initiative to promote sustainable tourism and the Albergo diffuso hospitality model in Battir aimed at safeguarding agro-cultural landscapes, strengthening community-based tourism, and enhancing local economic opportunities.

Focus areas, objectives, priorities, and themes of this initiative include sustainable tourism development, safeguarding and rehabilitation of agro-cultural landscapes, promotion of the Albergo diffuso (scattered hotel) hospitality model, community-based entrepreneurship, capacity building through training of 10–15 local beneficiaries, development of sustainable tourism business plans, preservation of cultural heritage, efficient use of natural resources, enhancement of agro-ecological production systems, and preparation of dissemination materials for public and institutional communication.

The initiative is being implemented in the Battir UNESCO World Heritage Site, a culturally significant landscape characterized by ancient agricultural terraces and traditional irrigation systems. It seeks to integrate tourism development with the preservation of local heritage while supporting agro-ecological production and improving the livelihoods of the community through sustainable practices.

Within this framework, the Expression of Interest aims to identify qualified service providers who can introduce and promote the Albergo diffuso model, a hospitality concept where accommodation is distributed across existing buildings within the village, allowing visitors to experience local life while utilizing and preserving existing structures.

The selected provider will be responsible for delivering intensive training to local participants, supporting them in developing business plans focused on sustainable tourism, and ensuring that all training and communication materials are designed for dissemination across public events, institutional channels, and digital platforms.

The assignment is intended to empower local residents to become entrepreneurs in sustainable tourism while maintaining the identity, culture, and environmental integrity of the village. The total available budget for this assignment is €25,000 excluding taxes, and eligible applicants must be legally registered entities with proven experience in sustainable tourism and related fields.
