Applicants are now submit applications to enhance environmental investigative journalism in Europe through funding for training programmes, fellowships, and professional capacity-building for journalists.
The focus areas of this programme include professional development for environmental investigative journalism, skills-based training and fellowship programmes, capacity building for journalists, improvement of environmental reporting on investigative issues, and development of tools and services that strengthen journalistic work on environmental topics. The total grant budget to be distributed among all supported projects in 2026 is €225,000 to distribute over three application rounds (€75,000 per call).
The programme is designed to strengthen the skills and expertise of environmental investigative journalists by supporting organisations and institutions that deliver structured training and professional development activities. It aims to enhance collective capacity in reporting environmental issues through targeted learning opportunities and specialised support.
Eligible applicants must be legal entities with proven experience in working with journalists or environmental issues. Organisations must have been officially established at least one year before the application deadline and should demonstrate clear expertise in environmental journalism or related fields.
The grant supports defined, time-limited projects such as training sessions, fellowship programmes, or other professional development activities that enable journalists to investigate environmental issues more effectively. Individuals are not eligible to apply, and collaborative projects must be submitted by a single lead organisation, with partners clearly identified.
Eligible costs include personnel and operational expenses that are directly linked to the project, incurred after the grant agreement is signed, necessary for implementation, and verifiable. These costs must not be funded by other donors and must be strictly associated with project delivery.
Certain costs are not eligible under this programme. These include indirect personnel or operational costs, internal rental expenses, overheads, food and beverage expenses, purchase of equipment or other tangible investment goods, and recoverable VAT.
The grant cannot be used for core funding or to support the ongoing permanent operations of an organisation. It is strictly intended for time-bound projects that enhance environmental investigative journalism capacity in Europe.
