Deadline Date: May 25, 2026
The United Nations Development Programme is seeking grant applications to support Suriname in the preservation and conservation of mangrove forests through initiatives that strengthen sustainable livelihoods and coastal ecosystem management.
The focus areas include integrated coastal zone management, water management, coastal defense, governance frameworks, community participation in mangrove co-management, sustainable income generation, and development of mangrove-based value chains such as honey, fisheries, nature tourism, and non-timber forest products.
The programme works to strengthen coordination, legal and strategic frameworks for coastal and water management, while enhancing meaningful participation of local communities in mangrove co-management and Multiple Use Management Areas. It also aims to increase sustainable income generation for women and youth through mangrove-based economic activities.
The call supports Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises engaged in value chain enhancement through targeted grants. The initiative focuses on improving skills and knowledge related to sustainable value chain development, value addition, cost-benefit analysis, and organizational development.
The proposed initiatives must enhance mangrove-related MSME value chains, strengthen sustainable income generation, integrate women, youth, and vulnerable groups, and support environmental sustainability and community resilience. Eligible activities include honey production, fisheries, mangrove-based eco-tourism, and non-timber forest products derived from mangrove ecosystems.
The programme targets local MSMEs operating in coastal districts, especially women-led and youth-led enterprises, as well as communities dependent on mangrove-based livelihoods. Applicants must be Suriname-based legal entities with at least three years of operational history and demonstrate capacity to manage grant funding.
Selected projects may receive up to USD 25,000 in funding, with implementation expected over a duration of six to eight months. Budget guidelines require justification for miscellaneous expenses and limit coordination costs, while encouraging in-kind contributions.
