Funding Opportunity for Climate Innovation and Industrial Demonstration Projects

Deadline Date: June 18, 2026

The United Nations Global Marketplace is offering to support the implementation of large-scale demonstration projects that advance innovative climate solutions and promote sustainable industrial development in developing countries.

The program focuses on inclusive and sustainable industrial development, climate innovation commercialization, demonstration-stage technologies, clean energy solutions, industrial decarbonization, smart energy systems, critical minerals, clean hydrogen, environmental sustainability, and strengthening knowledge, institutions, and economic competitiveness in developing countries.

Funding under the UNIDO Call for Proposal for Climate Innovation Demonstration Projects ranges from USD 1–5 million per project for the Global, Geographic, Latin America and Caribbean, and Asia and the Pacific windows, while the Larger-Scale Demonstration Projects window provides support of USD 15–20 million per project to enable large-scale climate innovation deployment in developing countries.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is the specialized United Nations agency dedicated to promoting industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization, and environmental sustainability. Its mission supports inclusive and sustainable industrial development as outlined in global frameworks such as the Lima Declaration, the Abu Dhabi Declaration, and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 9 which emphasizes resilient infrastructure, sustainable industrialization, and innovation.

The objective of this Call for Proposal is to identify qualified entities to submit detailed grant proposals for demonstration projects that accelerate the commercialization of innovative climate solutions. These projects must be implemented in developing countries eligible for Official Development Assistance and must contribute to scaling advanced technologies from demonstration to real-world application.

Applicants must select one funding window for their proposal submission. The Global Window, Geographic Window, Latin America and the Caribbean Window, and Asia and the Pacific Window each provide grant support ranging from 1 million to 5 million US dollars. A separate Larger-Scale Demonstration Projects Window offers funding between 15 million and 20 million US dollars for large-scale initiatives.

All proposed projects must fall under at least one designated thematic area, which includes critical minerals, clean hydrogen, smart energy, or industrial decarbonization. Each proposal must be aligned strictly with the scope of the selected thematic area and funding window.

Eligibility is restricted to demonstration-stage projects that are already beyond the pilot-testing phase. The innovative solution must be at a later stage of development and implemented in a single developing country. Multi-country projects or proposals covering multiple projects within one submission are not permitted.

Applicants must ensure that each proposal is submitted under only one funding window, and duplication of submissions across windows or by multiple consortia members is strictly prohibited. Each lead applicant is allowed to submit only one proposal under this call, and proposals that violate these conditions will be rejected.

The initiative aims to support projects that contribute to shared prosperity, enhance economic competitiveness, protect the environment, and strengthen institutional and knowledge systems, aligning with UNIDO’s broader mandate for sustainable industrial transformation.
