The Fondazione Prada Film Fund is an annual initiative providing financial support to independent cinema projects across the world, with the aim of encouraging innovative works by established authors, emerging talents, and research projects.
The focus areas include support for independent cinematographic works in the development, production, and post-production stages.
The Fondazione Prada Film Fund supports up to 14 projects each year regardless of geography, gender, or language, with a total endowment of €1.5 million. Film projects can be submitted at different stages of development, production, or post-production.
Selection of projects is based on quality, originality, vision, and the solidity and reliability of the applicant organization. The evaluation process is conducted by a committee appointed by Fondazione Prada, consisting of leading figures from cinema and culture, ensuring an independent, impartial, and professional assessment.
Through this fund, Fondazione Prada strengthens its commitment to cinema by supporting creative and innovative independent works. The selected beneficiaries will have their obligations defined through an agreement with Fondazione Prada, while the submitting production company will remain responsible for fulfilling all requirements and conditions.
The total amount allocated for 2026 is €1,500,000, intended to contribute to the production of independent cinematographic works. Funding amounts vary depending on the project stage, with development projects receiving between €15,000 and €80,000, production projects receiving between €30,000 and €250,000, and post-production projects receiving between €15,000 and €100,000.
Payments are distributed according to project stages. Development funding is provided with 50% upon signing and 50% on the first day of filming. Production funding is provided with 70% upon signing and 30% upon delivery of the final cut. Post-production funding is provided with 80% upon signing and 20% upon delivery of a subtitled DCP copy.
Eligible production companies must have previously produced at least two feature films presented as world premieres at an international festival included in the official list provided in the application checklist. The applicant company must also participate in the project with at least 20% of the film’s total budget.
The call is open to cinematographic works with a minimum running time of 65 minutes. Financial requirements include securing confirmed and documented financing for a significant portion of the project budget, including at least 70% for development projects, 20% of the total production budget for production projects, and 80% for post-production projects.
Films must be completed within six months, with at least 80% of the total budget secured. General management and administrative expenses cannot exceed 10% of the total project budget.
The projects selected for the second edition of the Fondazione Prada Film Fund will be announced in February 2027.
