The Community Grants Scheme supports voluntary and community organisations in improving local facilities and delivering activities that benefit residents.
The scheme focuses on supporting eco-friendly projects, building works and equipment, small-scale equipment or start-up costs, running costs and events, and health and wellbeing initiatives, with funding available across Capital Green Grants, Large Capital Grants, Small Capital Grants, Revenue Grants, and Everyone Active Grants, alongside priorities such as tackling climate change and addressing the cost of living.
The grants are designed to assist a wide range of organisations including constituted community groups, youth groups, sports clubs, registered charities, and social enterprises. School fundraising groups may also apply under certain conditions, while churches and faith groups are eligible only for projects that clearly benefit the wider community beyond religious purposes. Food banks are considered if they are affiliated with a recognised national network or appropriate governing body.
Funding amounts range from £500 to £5,000 depending on the type of grant, with some categories requiring match funding contributions. Capital Green Grants support environmentally sustainable projects and require a 20% contribution, while Large Capital Grants for building works or equipment require 50% match funding. Smaller grants, including Small Capital, Revenue, and Everyone Active grants, do not require match funding and are intended for modest projects or activities.
Applicants are encouraged to ensure eligibility before applying and must submit key documentation, including governing documents, equality policies, financial records, and bank statements. Additional requirements may apply depending on the nature of the project, such as safeguarding policies, quotes for higher-cost items, or permissions for building-related work.
To ensure fair distribution, organisations are generally limited to one grant at a time and typically receive funding once every two years, although exceptions may be made for projects addressing key priority areas.
