In partnership with the Inland Empire Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the City of Upland is inviting applications for its Small Business Expansion Grant Program.
This program provides grants to support independently owned small businesses in Upland as they expand and grow through:
- Increasing building square footage
- Expanding indoor/outdoor seating capacity
- Enhancing business service capacity
- Improving marketing, promotion, and signage. Limit of $5,000 in grant funds for Social Media marketing costs.
Objectives
- Supporting business growth and retention by enabling small businesses to expand their physical space, service capacity, and customer reach within the City of Upland.
- Empowering businesses through professional coaching and resources provided by the SBDC, including training sessions and one-on-one consultations.
- Promoting local economic stability by fostering the success of independently owned small businesses, thus contributing to the overall health of the Upland economy
Funding information
- This program provides grants of up to $15,000.
Eligibility Criteria
- For this program, a “small business” is defined as having 20 employees (full-time equivalent (FTE), not including owner) or less and have annual gross of sales less than $500,000.
- To be eligible a business must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be physically located within the City limits of Upland
- Be in business for one (1) full year (minimum) in Upland.
- Have annual gross sales that don’t exceed $500,000;
- Have 20 or less employees (full-time equivalent (FTE), not including owner);
- Participant must be the business owner(s); and
- Have an active Upland business license.
Ineligibility Criteria
- Businesses located outside the city limits of Upland
- National Credit Corporate-Owned Businesses
- Home-Based Businesses
- Non-Profits or Not for Profit Businesses
- Adult Businesses
- Massage Therapy
- Smoke Lounge/Tabacco Shop/E-Vape/Hookah
- Personal Services
- Tattoo Parlors
- Office/Professional Uses (medical or professional)
- Automotive related services
- Mobile Businesses
- Construction related services
- Businesses that received a grant from the City within the last calendar year.
- Businesses not in Good Standing with Federal, State or City of Upland, or any other agency. Good standing includes, but not limited to, no in arears payments to the City or other agencies, valid business licenses, all required permits, and no outstanding balances to Burrtec Waste and the City’s Utility Billing Division (Water/Sewer).
