Deadline Date: July 31, 2026
The Limestone Trucking Assistance Program provides support to farms and agricultural organizations by helping reduce the cost of transporting limestone to improve soil acidity management and farm production efficiency.
The program focuses on improving agricultural production efficiencies, neutralizing soil acidity on agricultural land, supporting limestone transportation, encouraging economic growth through Nova Scotia agricultural and agri-food products, and promoting diversity and inclusion across underrepresented and underserved communities including women, persons with disabilities, Black and African Nova Scotians, Mi’kmaq, Indigenous peoples, 2SLGBTQI+ individuals, and racialized communities.
Applicants can receive funding covering up to 80% of eligible expenses to a maximum of CAD 32,000. The funding supports transportation costs of dolomitic and calcitic limestone through two options. Eligible expenses include transportation costs related to limestone delivery and hauling. However, the purchase of limestone, administrative overhead, operating expenses, staff wages, small hand tools, and HST are not eligible for reimbursement.
The program is open to registered farms, Mi’kmaq conducting farming activities in Mi’kmaw communities, and agricultural industry associations including Community Pastures. Farms must be registered under the Farm Registration Act, actively farming during the program year, and applicants must be at least 19 years old.
Applicants are also required to provide a soil analysis lab report or a Nutrient Management Plan supporting the need for limestone application. Agricultural industry associations must demonstrate not-for-profit status, represent identifiable Nova Scotia agriculture and agri-food products, and submit a soil analysis or Nutrient Management Plan completed within the last three calendar years.
