The Wine and Grape Industry Development Program invites applications from eligible participants to strengthen Nova Scotia’s wine and grape sector by supporting development, productivity improvements, and long-term industry sustainability.
The Program is a provincial initiative designed to support the growth and long-term sustainability of Nova Scotia’s wine and grape sector. It encourages projects that improve vineyard and winery performance, strengthen production practices, and enhance industry resilience. The program also supports initiatives related to innovation, climate adaptation, skills development, and market advancement to ensure continued competitiveness of the sector.
Eligible applicants include Nova Scotia certified farm wineries and small farm wineries, farms generating grape commodity income, and agriculture industry associations applying for marketing, training, or consultancy projects that benefit multiple vineyards or wineries. Applicants must support inclusive participation, with opportunities extended to equity-deserving groups across the province. arm wineries and grape growers must be registered under the Farm Registration Act, actively farming during the program year, and be 19 years of age or older. They must also maintain a minimum of 2 acres of wine grapes in production and provide proof of grape sales or a contract with a Nova Scotia winery.
The program offers up to 60% funding of eligible expenses, with a maximum of $25,000 per year for small farm wineries or grape growers with 2 to under 10 acres, and up to $50,000 per year for farm wineries or growers with 10 acres or more. Agriculture industry associations may also access up to $50,000 annually. All applications require project quotes, and funding levels may change in future program cycles depending on budget and government priorities.
Applications are reviewed by the Department of Agriculture upon receipt, and successful applicants receive a Letter of Agreement outlining approved funding and conditions. Applicants must verify, sign, and return the agreement within 30 days, or funding may be forfeited.
