The Community Grants Programme provides funding to help community groups, sports clubs, charities, and other eligible organisations improve facilities, deliver activities, and support projects that benefit local communities.
The focus areas of this programme include eco-friendly projects, building works, equipment purchases, start-up costs, running costs, community events, health and wellbeing initiatives, facility improvements, and activities that support community development.
The programme offers five different grant types to meet a range of community needs. Capital Green grants support environmentally friendly projects and provide funding of up to £5,000 with a 20 percent match funding requirement. Large Capital grants support building work or equipment purchases and offer up to £5,000 with a 50 percent match funding requirement.
Small Capital grants provide up to £500 for equipment purchases or start-up costs and do not require match funding. Revenue grants also offer up to £500 to support running costs or events, while Everyone Active grants provide up to £500 for projects focused on health and wellbeing. Neither of these grant types requires match funding.
Applications are open to constituted community groups, youth groups, sports clubs, registered charities, social enterprises such as Community Interest Companies, school fundraising groups, and church or faith groups, subject to any applicable restrictions. Organisations may apply for one grant at a time, and funding is generally limited to one successful application every two years, although projects addressing special priorities such as climate change and the cost of living may receive more frequent consideration.
Applicants are required to provide key supporting documents, including their organisation’s constitution or governing rules, an equality policy, recent bank statements for all accounts, and their most recent financial accounts. Depending on the nature of the project, additional documents such as safeguarding policies, quotations for larger purchases or works, and permissions for building projects may also be required.
