Deadline Date: May 27, 2026
The Innovate UK is now accepting grant applications to support UK businesses in exploring innovative battery technologies to drive electrification and enhance industrial competitiveness.
The key priorities of this funding programme include accelerating the development and commercialisation of advanced battery technologies, supporting the growth of the UK battery supply chain and associated industries, enhancing global competitiveness in the battery sector, and demonstrating solutions that meet specific application needs across electrification-driven industries.
This programme is part of the Battery Innovation Programme and is designed to support early-stage feasibility studies that address key technological and market challenges within the battery value chain. It focuses on enabling innovation that can be translated into practical applications across multiple sectors.
The competition encourages proposals that clearly demonstrate market demand for specific applications and sectors, while also addressing existing industry challenges and removing barriers to adoption. Projects are expected to show how they contribute to strengthening the UK’s position across the global battery value chain.
Eligible projects can focus on a range of areas including raw materials, advanced cell materials, cell design and components, manufacturing processes and tools, quality control and diagnostic systems, as well as testing, simulation, and digital technologies. This broad scope allows applicants to address multiple aspects of battery innovation and development.
Funding is available for UK-registered businesses, with eligible project costs ranging from £70,000 to £500,000. Projects are expected to last between 6 and 18 months, providing a structured timeframe for feasibility assessment and innovation development.
All project work must be conducted within the United Kingdom, and applicants must demonstrate a clear intention to exploit the results domestically. Projects must begin on the first day of the month following approval of the Grant Offer Letter, in line with programme requirements.
Overall, the Battery Innovation Feasibility Studies Round 2 competition plays a key role in advancing UK battery innovation by supporting targeted feasibility studies that strengthen electrification technologies and industrial capability.
