Gain expert training, critical resources to accelerate your venture, a one-week in-person residency in Washington, DC, and a one-week in-person residency in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Africa Climate Fellowship is run with support from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the Office of Global Partnerships at the U.S. State Department.

Program Structure
- Cohort of up to 10 ventures founded by entrepreneurs from across Sub-Saharan Africa, working in the climate space. Ventures receive training in Halcyon’s methodology on product-market fit, investment readiness, and leadership.
- Program is delivered through:
- One virtual kickoff meeting
- A one week residency in DC
- Monthly virtual meetings
- A one week residency in Nairobi
Benefits
- Each program includes specific benefits to fellows. Fellows accepted into this program will receive the following:
- A $5,000 USD per venture equity-free stipend to use toward travel expenses to attend the residencies
- One week long residency at Halcyon’s facilities in Georgetown, Washington, DC
- One week long residency in Nairobi with a culminating event featuring pitches from each venture and connections to investors, advisors, and media
- Bespoke training on:
- Product-market fit
- Investment readiness
- Leadership
- Skills development and mentorship
- Honing storytelling and pitching
- Connections to relevant impact investors
- $10,000 USD in Amazon Cloud credits
- A worldwide community of over 450 impact driven entrepreneurs
Eligibility Criteria
- They’re looking for (for-profit) startups that are building scalable solutions that are tackling challenges related to Climate change.
- Location: Must have your venture based in and/or serving Sub-Saharan Africa
- Stage: Must have a Minimum Viable Product that has the potential to scale
- Team:
- May apply with up to one co-founder
- Applicant must be the CEO and/or hold primary decision-making power
- Must be fluent in English
- Must be at least 21 years of age by the start of the program
- Program Engagement: Must be able to participate in all activities and programming sessions
- Impact: Must be developing a product and venture which contributes towards 1 or more of the UN’s 17 SDGs
- In addition to eligibility, Halcyon scores each application based on 4 criteria: Impact, Scalability, Innovation, and Talent.
