World Bank Group Young Professionals Program (YPP)

Deadline: 30 September 2024

The World Bank Group’s Young Professionals Program engages top global talent with distinctive technical skills and diverse backgrounds to work across the World Bank, MIGA, and IFC towards a world free of poverty on a livable planet.

For over 60 years, the Young Professionals Program (YPP) has been both a highly competitive and uniquely rewarding opportunity to join the World Bank Group. As a premier international organization at the forefront of development, they look for prospective Young Professionals (YPs) to join them from around the world with diverse backgrounds, exceptional technical skills, outstanding leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to the mission and values. Working across the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA, the YPs help solve the world’s most pressing development challenges to improve the lives of millions globally.

YPs join the World Bank Group as Technical Specialists, Economists, and Associate Investment Officers on an initial five-year term contract, renewable based on performance. During their first two years, they have the unique opportunity to deepen their knowledge and experience through rotational assignments across the World Bank Group.

Additionally, YPs take part in a structured learning and talent development journey through the YP Academy. Key elements include technical and operations training, language programs, negotiation and business skills, and leadership development. YPs also receive one-on-one coaching, connect with mentors, and engage in strategy-focused dialogues with senior leaders.

Benefits

  • Annual and Sick Leave
    • To promote work-life balance, they have generous leave policies, including 26 days of annual leave and 15 days of sick leave per year for new staff.
  • Parental Leave
    • They support staff with families through the parental leave program, which offers 100 days for primary and 50 days for secondary caregivers.
  • Benefits for International and Third Country Nationals
    • They provide strong support for internationally recruited staff and Third Country Nationals working in local country offices. This includes relocation and resettlement benefits, as well as mobility premiums and global mobility benefits, for certain staff.
  • Insurance
    • They care for the health and safety of staff and dependents, including domestic partners, through top-quality insurance programs, including medical, retirement, life, disability, worker’s compensation, and more.
  • Pension Plan
    • The care for staff continues post-career through a comprehensive pension plan, supported by staff and World Bank contributions.

Why apply?

  • Through the Young Professionals Program (YPP), they select top talent to advance the World Bank Group’s mission. Nearly a thousand YPP alumni work at the World Bank Group today, at the World Bank, IFC, and MIGA. They work across a wide range of sectors and technical streams – from A to W: Agriculture to Water – and on every work program in between. Most hold senior management and technical leadership positions and serve a key role in shaping the future of international development. The YP community is strong, active, and influential, allowing new YPs the opportunity to build a dynamic professional network within this group and beyond.
  • If you are looking for an unparalleled opportunity to learn, grow, lead, and have meaningful impact towards a world free of poverty on a livable planet, they invite you to apply to join the team.

Contract Start Date and Terms

  • The Young Professionals Program does not offer deferred entry and you must be prepared to start full-time employment with the World Bank Group on September 8, 2025.
  • If you are invited to join the Young Professionals Program, your offer will include a 5-year term contract as a mid-career staff member (GF level) that may be renewable based on performance.
  • You also might be eligible for a G-type visa for you and your dependents.
  • You may be located in Washington, DC or any of the World Bank Group country offices worldwide, and must be prepared to relocate accordingly.

  • Date of birth on or after October 1, 1992.
  • Nationality of a World Bank Group member country as demonstrated by your officially issued passport or equivalent document.
