Deadline: 13 December 2023
WINGS Interactive is a new games fund that finances games by diverse teams, starting with games from teams with women and marginalized genders developers at key positions.
WINGS invests in indie games by teams in which women and marginalized gender developers hold key positions.
The mission is simple: find talented, diverse teams and fund their high potential games. The success of diverse teams will lead to more unique ideas coming to life, new voices being heard, and new games that cater to a wider variety of players.
The investment decisions are driven by a selection committee of outstanding women game developers. They passionately believe that better representation leads to better creativity.
Developers First
- The focus is helping teams build a sustainable studio:
- Revenue share from the first dollar
- Complete creative and business control
- Ensuring developers own IP rights
- Support in any area teams need help, including business development & platform relationships.
- WINGS is funding games up to $500,000:
- Simple online application
- 1-month turnaround on submission
- Flexible milestone payments
- Clear 3-page contract
Criteria
- They accept applications from teams of men from marginalized backgrounds, however they recognize the same cultural biases that cause certain groups to be overlooked for funding may still happen if you are from a marginalized background that is not represented by the current committee. They will be actively working to expand selection committee membership to embrace even more diverse groups in later stages.
- There’s no type, genre, format or length criteria with them. They are more focused on whether the game is fun, and whether it will sell. They don’t invest in games that they think won’t be profitable!
- They primarily fund premium PC and console indie games. The games need to be created by teams in which women and marginalized genders developers have key creative, technical or management positions. The committee first verifies the diversity requirements are met, and then looks for excellent content, innovation and appeal.
