Smart India Hackathon 2023 – Junior Edition

Smart India Hackathon 2023 is a nationwide initiative launched by AICTE and MoE to provide students with a platform to solve some of the pressing problems everyone faces in the daily lives.

The event aims to inculcate a culture of product innovation and a mindset of problem-solving among young and innovative minds. The hackathon invites students from classes 6th to 12th to showcase their out-of-the-box thinking and innovative ideas.

Themes

Teams can choose a theme from one of the following 17 themes:

  • Agriculture, Foodtech & Rural Development
    • Developing solutions, keeping in mind the need to enhance the primary sector of India – Agriculture and to manage and process the agriculture produce.
  • Blockchain & Cybersecurity
    • Provide ideas in a decentralized and distributed ledger technology used to store digital information that powers cryptocurrencies and NFTs and can radically change multiple sectors.
  • Clean & Green Technology
    • Solutions could be in the form of waste segregation, disposal, and an improved sanitation system.
  • Disaster Management
    • Disaster management includes ideas related to risk mitigation, Planning and management before, after or during a disaster.
  • Fitness & Sports
    • Ideas that can boost fitness activities and assist in keeping fit.
  • Heritage & Culture
    • Ideas that showcase the rich cultural heritage and traditions of India.
  • Medtech/Biotech/Healthtech
    • Cutting-edge technology in these sectors continues to be in demand. Recent shifts in healthcare trends, growing populations also present an array of opportunities for innovation.
  • Miscellaneous
    • Technology ideas in tertiary sectors like Hospitality, Financial Services, Entertainment and Retail.
  • Renewable/Sustainable Energy
    • Innovative ideas that help manage and generate renewable/sustainable sources more efficiently.
  • Robotics and Drones
    • There is a need to design drones and robots that can solve some of the pressing challenges of India such as handling medical emergencies, search and rescue operations, etc.
  • Smart Automation
    • Ideas focused on the intelligent use of resources for transforming and advancements of technology with combining the artificial intelligence to explore more various sources and get valuable insights.
  • Smart Education
    • Smart education, a concept that describes learning in the digital age. It enables learners to learn more effectively, efficiently, flexibly and comfortably.
  • Smart Vehicles
    • Creating intelligent devices to improve the commutation sector.
  • Space Technology
    • Space technology ideas encompass innovative concepts like asteroid mining, lunar habitats, reusable rockets, and interplanetary colonization. These concepts promise to revolutionize space exploration and expand human presence beyond Earth.
  • Travel & Tourism
    • A solution/idea that can boost the current situation of the tourism industries including hotels, travel and others.
  • Toys & Games
    • Challenge your creative mind to conceptualize and develop unique toys and games based on the civilization, history, and culture etc.
  • Transportation & Logistics
    • Submit your ideas to address the growing pressures on the city’s resources, transport networks, and logistic infrastructure.

Student Guidelines

  • Team formation should adhere to the following points:
    • Team size can range from a minimum of 3 members to a maximum of 6 members.
    • Teams can have a maximum of 2 mentors. One mentor is mandatory, the other is optional. Mentors can be teachers/parents/industry experts.
    • It is recommended to have at least one female team member.
    • Members of a team should belong to the same school. Interschool teams are not allowed!
    • Teams should be formed among members of the same tier, i.e. Track 1 (Class 6 to 9) will form a team only among themselves and Track 2 (Class 10 to 12) will form a team only among themselves.
  • Each team can submit a maximum of 3 ideas.

SPOC Guidelines

  • SIH Junior 2023 is a Smart India Hackathon that invites school students to contribute their innovative ideas to solve real-world challenges posed by different industries. It broadens its scope to include school students, recognizing that innovation knows no age limits.
  • The introduction of the Open Innovation Student category is a significant leap that enables school students to contribute their ideas against 17 predefined themes, ranging from technology and sustainability to healthcare and agriculture. This inclusion nurtures a culture of innovation from a tender age. Participants can immerse themselves in themes that align with their interests and aspirations, inviting diverse perspectives.
  • Team Formation
    • A team can be formed of 3 students to 6 students (at max); 2 Mentors (One Mentor Mandatory and One Mentor is optional) (can be teachers/parents/industry experts).
    • It is recommended to have at least one female member to be a part of the team.
    • All students should be from the same school. Inter-school teams are not allowed
    • Team Name should be unique and not contain the name of their institute in any form.
    • In Track 1, students who are in 6th to 9th standard should form a team together.
    • As for Track 2, students who are in 10th to 12th standard should create a team together.
