The TO DO Award invites tourism projects worldwide that demonstrate strong commitment to socially responsible and sustainable tourism practices.
The award focuses on ensuring active participation and co-determination of the local population in tourism planning and implementation, incorporating the diverse interests and needs of local communities, facilitating inclusive decision-making through consultations such as information sessions, surveys, and discussions, and ensuring that tourism initiatives align with environmental compatibility and sustainability principles.
This international competition recognizes tourism projects, initiatives, and services that actively involve local communities throughout the entire development process. A key requirement is that local populations are not only consulted but also meaningfully engaged in decision-making and benefit-sharing, ensuring that tourism development contributes positively to their social, cultural, and economic well-being.
The award highlights the importance of responsible tourism practices that promote fair treatment of all stakeholders involved. Projects are expected to create opportunities for local income generation, improve working conditions, and support intercultural exchange between visitors and host communities. At the same time, initiatives must minimize negative social and cultural impacts while strengthening local identity and community resilience.
Environmental sustainability is a core requirement, with projects needing to demonstrate compatibility with ecological principles and the sustainable use of natural resources. The award emphasizes tourism models that balance economic benefits with environmental protection and long-term sustainability outcomes.
Winners of the TO DO Award receive recognition in the form of a trophy and certificate, along with prize funding of approximately 5,000 Swiss francs provided by the Swiss Foundation for Solidarity in Tourism.
