Deadline: 17 April 2025
The Government of the Republic of Uganda received financing from the World Bank to implement the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project, which is being executed by the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development (MGLSD) and Private Sector Foundation (PSFU).
The project’s purpose is to increase access to entrepreneurial services that will enable female entrepreneurs to grow their businesses in targeted locations, including host and refugee districts.
As part of this initiative, the project will implement the Women’s Entrepreneurship Work Placement/Apprenticeship Program aimed at enabling women entrepreneurs to acquire the skills and networks required to operate in male-dominated high-profit trades/occupations; and to facilitate women entrepreneurs and employees to transition into profitable sectors or trades.
Objectives
- This Program has been developed to expand women entrepreneurs’ access to work placement opportunities in high-demand careers across a range of industries, including fields traditionally underrepresented by women. It will be implemented using the governance structures provided for under the Uganda National Apprenticeship Framework 2018, namely, the National Apprenticeship Steering Committee and the Sectoral Apprenticeship Committees. The national steering committee is in place and will make recommendations to the GROW steering committee for final approval. Young women entrepreneurs and employees (ages 16–35) will be supported through the national apprenticeship scheme to work while learning better business and operational practices.
