The Australian Government has launched a National Energy Bill Relief payment to support eligible small businesses in managing electricity costs.
The focus areas include energy bill relief support, small business financial assistance, electricity cost reduction, embedded electricity network access, and eligibility-based utility subsidies for small enterprises.
This initiative aims to provide targeted financial relief to small businesses facing rising electricity costs. It is designed to ease operational pressures by offering direct support toward energy expenses, ensuring that eligible businesses can better manage their utility payments during the 2025–26 financial year.
Under the programme, eligible small businesses in New South Wales may receive up to $150 in electricity bill relief. Businesses operating within embedded electricity networks must apply through a designated portal, while retail customers will automatically receive the payment through their energy bills without the need for an application.
The payment is administered by the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water on behalf of the Australian Government, ensuring coordinated delivery of the support mechanism across the state.
To qualify, small businesses must meet specific criteria, including having an active Australian Business Number, using less than 100 megawatt hours of electricity annually across all NSW sites, and maintaining an electricity account with at least 90 days of metered usage in the business name. Additionally, applicants must not have already received the payment for the same financial year.
Businesses operating from residential electricity plans or those with inactive ABNs are not eligible for the programme. The support is specifically designed for embedded network customers who meet all eligibility requirements.
