Deadline Date: May 18, 2026
The Smart Nano Industrial Photonics Bootcamp offers a three-day intensive programme designed to build practical skills in photonic device design, simulation, and validation for organisations and professionals working with emerging photonics technologies.
The programme focuses on hands-on training with industry-standard tools, building in-demand photonics skills, learning from leading industry experts, accelerating innovation from concept to prototype, and connecting participants to Northern Ireland’s photonics ecosystem.
The bootcamp will take place from June 2 to 4 and is delivered by Digital Catapult in collaboration with the Smart Nano NI consortium. It combines one day of hybrid seminars with two days of in-person technical training and an optional site visit, providing a structured yet applied learning experience.
Participants will gain practical exposure to designing and simulating photonic devices and photonic integrated circuits using tools such as Ansys Lumerical. The programme also includes sessions on device modelling, nanophotonics, plasmonics, and system integration, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the photonics development lifecycle.
A key component of the programme is access to the Smart Nano Lab, where participants will explore early-stage prototyping workflows and learn how designs transition from conceptual stages to physical validation through specialised fabrication and characterisation processes.
The bootcamp is open to UK-registered organisations working in or exploring photonics technologies, including startups, SMEs, system integrators, semiconductor developers, engineers, and R&D teams. It is particularly relevant for those aiming to integrate photonic components into products or strengthen their capabilities in sensing, communications, AI hardware, and advanced technology sectors.
By combining technical training with real-world applications and industry collaboration, the programme aims to reduce development risk and support innovation within Northern Ireland’s growing photonics ecosystem.
