CFAS: Transforming African MedTech Conference & Villgro Africa Medtech Cohort

Villgro Africa has launched two calls for applications for medtech startups: Transforming African MedTech 2024 Conference (for African medtech companies) and Villgro Africa Medtech Cohort (for East African medtech companies).

Apply to participate in the Transforming African Medtech Conference 2024

  • The second annual Transforming African MedTech Conference aims to unite innovators, clinicians, investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders from across the continent in a collaborative effort to envision the future of the African medical technology industry. The definition of MedTech encompasses medical devices and equipment, robotics, artificial intelligence, and wearables.
  • This conference serves as a platform to showcase medical technology innovations, address pressing healthcare challenges, and foster collaboration among stakeholders. With 120 participants in 2023, this year’s event is expected to be even larger, further advancing MedTech solutions and shaping the future of healthcare in Africa.
  • By increasing linkages across the continent, they aim to strategically support the realization of locally conceived, developed and manufactured medical technologies that can be distributed and used throughout the African continent. During the conference, they plan to host spirited discussions, panels, masterclasses, and workshops on matters related to MedTech in Africa.
  • They are excited to announce the opening of the Call for Applications for the 2024 Transforming African MedTech Conference.

Apply to join the Villgro Africa Medtech Cohort

  • As part of their commitment to fostering innovation in medtech, they will also be running a six-month acceleration program for companies that are developing solutions in the medtech industry.
  • They are actively seeking eligible candidates from East Africa to join their core portfolio for investment and technical support.

  • They are seeking entrepreneurs focused on developing medical device solutions across various areas, including maternal and child healthcare, hospital equipment, non-surgical medical devices, surgical equipment, diagnostic tools for both non-communicable and communicable diseases, remote monitoring solutions (wearables), vital signs monitoring within hospital settings, and other related innovations.

  • Eligibility Criteria
    • Be a company registered in an East African country.
    • Relevance of team expertise to product development.
    • The hardware product should be functional, having demonstrated proof of concept.
    • Awareness of user needs and the potential for impact.
    • The uniqueness of technology and hardware development.
    • The applicant must meet all the criteria below:
      • A national of an East African country or holds indefinite leave to remain in an East African country
      • Domiciled in an East African country in which they must be a legal resident and
      • Developing the proposed health innovation in their host country.
