Deadline Date: May 25, 2026
The WasteSorted Awards 2026 recognise outstanding achievements in waste reduction, resource recovery, and circular economy innovation across Western Australia.
The focus of these awards includes waste avoidance, reuse, repair, recycling, circular economy practices, sustainable resource management, environmental protection, innovation in waste solutions, community engagement, education and awareness, business sustainability practices, government leadership in waste reduction, regional waste management challenges, and initiatives that deliver measurable improvements in waste outcomes.
The WasteSorted Awards are an initiative of the Government of Western Australia and are coordinated by the Waste Authority WA. They celebrate individuals, organisations, businesses, schools, community groups, not-for-profits, and government bodies that are working towards a low-waste future by implementing better waste practices and inspiring others to adopt sustainable behaviours.
The awards recognise efforts that go beyond traditional waste disposal approaches, encouraging actions such as avoiding waste generation, reusing materials, repairing products, and improving recycling systems. They highlight contributions that support the transition towards a circular economy across the state.
A range of categories is included in the 2026 awards to reflect the diversity of participation. These include recognition for community initiatives, school-based programs with accredited waste practices, business excellence in waste reduction, individual champions of waste management, collaborative team efforts, and leadership by local governments and regional councils.
The awards also include categories that highlight regional achievements, community engagement through events and campaigns, innovation in waste management practices, and initiatives that successfully demonstrate circular economy principles by keeping materials in use and reducing environmental impact.
Eligibility is open to individuals and organisations with a substantial presence in Western Australia or projects undertaken within the state. Submissions must be accurate and verifiable, and entries that include misleading information or unsupported claims may be disqualified. Waste service providers may collaborate on joint submissions but cannot apply on behalf of clients. Applicants must also comply with legal and environmental standards, with restrictions placed on organisations that have recent environmental, social, or commercial law violations.
