Applicants are now invited to submit applications for German SDG and UNIDO Innovation Awards to increase awareness, visibility and, as a result, identification with the SDGs.
The aim is to significantly increase awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals in business and society and to anchor them in society as a whole.
With the initiative of the German SDG Awards and the UNIDO Innovation Awards, they want to highlight ideas and solution-oriented impulses as an incentive for solutions in order to successfully tackle and implement challenges together.
The German SDG Award and the UNIDO Innovation Award are free from:

- PR messages
- Political influence
- Fees
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), are the 17 United Nations goals for the sustainable development of global society and economy. The global sustainability goals of Agenda 2030 aim to ensure that in the future, ten billion people can live together without hunger, in peace, security, and prosperity. This includes a strong emphasis on climate and environmental protection, the fight against global poverty and hunger, and the promotion of health, justice, and education. The SDG Award, established by the Senate of Economy Germany and UNIDO, contributes to raising awareness and visibility for the Sustainable Development Goals.
Types of Awards
- German SDG Award
- The German SDG Award honors pioneers who make exemplary contributions to achieving the SDG goal framework and raises awareness of their exemplary and impactful projects and activities among a wider audience. In addition to recognizing the awardees, a key focus is on the overall societal integration of the SDG goals. The German SDG Award 2023 is aimed at pioneers primarily active in Germany or operating from Germany.
- The German SDG Award 2023 is awarded in three categories:
- Companies
- Youth & Education
- Cities, municipalities & counties
- UNIDO Innovation Award
- The UNIDO Innovation Award will be presented for the first time. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), represented by the Director General Gerd Müller, will present the UNIDO Innovation Award to the winning applicants from companies and cities that make a significant contribution to sustainable industrial development and have a global impact, as well as generate international synergies.
- The UNIDO Innovation Award is awarded in two categories:
- Companies
- Cities
- The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) pursues the objective of promoting sustainable industrial development and technological progress in developing and emerging countries. UNIDO’s work focuses on SDG 9: Sustainable industrial development, innovation and infrastructure.
- UNIDO’s main areas of focus include: Implementation of sustainable supply chains, promotion of renewable energies, support in the implementation of environmental standards and the Strengthening of economic competitiveness of developing and emerging countries.

Companies, institutions, educational institutions, cities, communities, districts, organizations and initiatives can apply.
