Algeria: Greentech Challenge (3rd Edition)

BNP Paribas El Djazaïr, as a partner of the Algeria Startup Challenge 2024, is proud to launch its Greentech Challenge.

This is an Open Innovation competition aimed at Algerian startups and innovators offering innovative solutions of a sustainable nature in a high-impact area such as the circular economy, sustainable mobility or even the energy transition.

They have chosen to focus the competition on the themes of energy optimization and the optimization of water management.

Thus, the bank aims to partner with the new generation of entrepreneurs to anticipate changes, detect market trends and transform them into opportunities. In summary, meet the challenges of tomorrow together!

Goals

  • Encourage the emergence of the new generation of innovative and sustainable startups, in order to position themselves as a key player in the Algerian economic fabric.
  • Contribute to the maturity of the Algerian startup ecosystem by supporting the expansion of established startups.
  • Identify and support future nuggets of the Algerian startup ecosystem to bring out innovative solutions working in development and sustainable transition.
  • Promote responsible and sustainable growth, and raise awareness about the adoption of technologies and innovations with a positive impact.

Themes

  • Energy optimization
    • Support innovations that reinvent energy consumption and production. Solutions may include, but are not limited to:
      • Innovations in the fields of air conditioning;
      • Smart sensors and IOT technologies;
      • Optimization of consumption and efficient energy management by AI;
      • Thermal insulation technologies and energy renovation of buildings and infrastructure;
      • Optimization of logistics and delivery of goods in e-commerce;
      • Smart Grid technologies and reduction of losses in the electricity network;
      • Production and optimization of renewable energies;
      • Efficiency of electronic devices and equipment (energy efficiency);
      • Fuel savings of light and heavy vehicles.
  • Optimization of water management
    • Promote innovations that optimize water use. Startups can offer solutions such as:
      • Sensors and smart solutions for agriculture;
      • Water production, management and reuse solutions;
      • Water filtration/purification/purification;
      • Detection and repair of leaks in infrastructure;
      • Rainwater management;
      • Optimization of company maintenance/cleaning.

Why participate?

  • Prizes for the 3 finalists:
    • Possibility of collaboration with BNP Paribas El Djazaïr and access to its network of partners.
    • The 3 finalists will benefit from support and visibility through the Algeria Startup Challenge 2024 program and in the bank’s institutional communication.
  • Prize winner:
    • A support grant with a financial value of 500,000 DZD for the benefit of the winning startup.
    • Access to the network of experts and the ecosystem of BNP Paribas El Djazaïr partners.
    • Opportunity for collaboration in a logic of open innovation.

Typical Profile of Expected Sourced Startups

  • Maturity level of the startup
    • For this edition they favor established startups, with a more advanced level of maturity (operational solution, patent filed, Startup or Innovative Company label for example).
      • Early-stage but with a working prototype and MVP;
      • Established startup;
      • Scale-up.
  • Solution
    • The proposed solution must address a need present on the Algerian market (at a minimum);
    • No limit on target market: B2B, B2C, B2G;
    • The proposed solution must have an innovative character with a technological dimension;
    • The solution must include a level of technical feasibility consistent with the ambitions and maturity of the market.
  • Pitch deck
    • Team presentation;
    • Presentation of the solution and its value proposition and the impact of the solution;
    • Study of the market, ambitions and key figures;
    • Product vision and impact;
    • Canva business model; Demo of the solution (video, photos, etc.).
