Deadline: October 10, 2025
The Water Council presents its Fall 2025 Tech Challenge focused on technologies to better manage water quality within water systems and enable smarter, faster decision-making.
The challenge seeks technology solutions and new systems, processes or tools for decision-making support for water quality addressing any stage of the water cycle related to human consumption, including drinking water and wastewater systems across residential, commercial and utility-scale applications as well as their distribution networks.
Industry leaders A. O. Smith Corporation, Badger Meter, Watts Water Technologies and Xylem are partnering with The Water Council to identify innovative solutions that provide a new level of decision-making support for water quality management.
Applicants must present solutions at Technology Readiness Level 3 and above. The challenge welcomes innovations that can transform how water quality is monitored, analyzed and managed across various applications and distribution systems.
Ultrapure water system and natural resource management solutions fall outside the scope of this particular challenge. The focus remains specifically on decision-making support technologies for water quality management.
Targeted topics are selected by sponsoring companies, with challenges held each spring and fall. Water technology innovators from anywhere in the world—including inventive individuals, university students or researchers, water professionals or private sector and government labs—are invited to apply. After the close of the competition, applications are reviewed by their corporate R&D team sponsors. Winners are chosen and get the opportunity to present to sponsors and compete for: A top prize of $10,000, Opportunity for potential corporate partnership, Corporate expertise and feedback.
