Deadline Date: June 23, 2026
AGRA invites eligible organizations to submit concept notes for developing lowland rice production and promoting the adoption of System of Rice Intensification (SRI) methods to create sustainable employment opportunities for young people, especially young women, in Burkina Faso.
The key focus areas include sustainable management and ecological intensification of lowland rice paddies, development and hydraulic security of lowland areas, access to quality inputs suitable for rice cultivation, facilitation of youth participation in lowland rice production, increasing incomes of young people through the rice value chain, and creating sustainable employment opportunities for young men and women through inclusive and climate-resilient rice value chain development.
The intervention aims to support young men and women, with particular attention to women, by improving access to developed lowland areas and competitive subsidies for adopting SRI practices. The project focuses on addressing barriers related to access to resources, agricultural opportunities, and participation in productive value chains.
Through the development of 15 lowland areas, the project will promote sustainable rice production by integrating infrastructure development, improved farming practices, inclusion, and professionalization across the rice value chain. The expected interventions include the construction of light or semi-improved hydro-agricultural developments such as dikes, irrigation and drainage canals, installation of efficient water management systems, protection of production areas against erosion and flooding, and strengthening land security for farmers, especially young people and women.
The project will also promote access to quality agricultural inputs, including certified seeds adapted to local conditions, recommended organic and mineral fertilizers, and organized group purchasing through cooperatives and producer organizations.
The initiative supports Burkina Faso’s efforts to strengthen agricultural systems, improve food security, and create economic opportunities for youth. By developing climate-resilient lowland rice production systems and strengthening value chain participation, the project seeks to increase incomes and support sustainable employment opportunities.
Eligible applicants include legally registered entities in Burkina Faso such as private companies, producer organizations, cooperatives, youth and women’s cooperative structures, Business Development Service providers, NGOs, and civil society organizations with experience in youth integration and partnership management.
The project will have a maximum implementation period of 36 months with a budget allocation of USD 2.44 million, aiming to catalyze 70,000 decent and sustainable jobs for young people, particularly young women, through inclusive development of the lowland rice value chain.
