Youth Jobs Through Poultry and Livestock Value Chains (Burkina Faso)

Deadline Date: June 23, 2026

AGRA Burkina Faso is inviting concept notes from eligible organizations to develop innovative and proven models that create dignified employment opportunities for young women and men through poultry and small ruminant value chains.

The key focus areas, objectives, priorities, and themes of the opportunity include creating employment opportunities for young people aged 18–35 years in poultry and small ruminant value chains; reaching 44,000 young people through work-oriented awareness activities; accelerating access to employment opportunities in poultry value chains including broiler chickens, hatcheries, and related services; expanding opportunities in poultry and small ruminant value chains including sheep fattening; promoting the participation of young women and people with disabilities; strengthening livestock value chains; supporting youth entrepreneurship; improving incomes and livelihoods; and contributing to the objectives of the Youth Entrepreneurship for the Future of Food and Agriculture (YEFFA) program and the Young Africa Works strategy.

AGRA is seeking implementation partners with proven experience in strengthening poultry and small ruminant value chains, empowering young women and men, working with local communities, and supporting sustainable livelihood development in Burkina Faso.

The project aims to co-create and fund innovative interventions that enable at least 30,000 young women and men to access employment opportunities within poultry and small ruminant value chains over a maximum period of 36 months.

Eligible applicants include legally registered entities in Burkina Faso such as private livestock companies, hatcheries, feed manufacturers, processors, producer organizations, cooperatives, business development service providers, incubators, NGOs, and civil society organizations with relevant experience in youth employment and agricultural value chain development.

The initiative is part of AGRA’s YEFFA program, implemented in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation under the Young Africa Works strategy, which focuses on enabling young Africans, particularly young women, to access dignified and fulfilling employment opportunities.

In Burkina Faso, AGRA is supporting stakeholders to leverage new technologies and innovative approaches to strengthen inclusive agriculture, improve food systems, enhance competitiveness of local actors, and create employment opportunities for young farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.

The poultry and small ruminant sectors present important opportunities for youth employment due to increasing demand for animal protein products driven by urbanization and changing consumption patterns. The intervention seeks to address value chain challenges related to inputs, production, market access, and financial inclusion to expand opportunities for young people.

The total budget available for this opportunity is USD 2.57 million, with the project expected to support employment-focused interventions that improve access to decent and fulfilling work in livestock value chains.
