Applications are open for the Science Communication grant program to support professional communication projects that bring research and science to non-scientific audiences.
The program aims to strengthen public engagement with basic research and promote fact-based knowledge in society and supports communication projects within the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Priority is given to initiatives that communicate basic research, address current societal issues, encourage collaboration between researchers and communicators, stimulate public interest in science, and contribute to informed public debate. Projects should demonstrate originality in their content and communication approach.
Applications are open to independent communicators, public institutions, private companies, and non-profit organizations based in Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. Applicants must have communication as their primary professional activity and documented experience in journalism, media production, or related communication fields. Projects must involve researchers with at least a PhD degree who contribute to or quality-assure the content. The target audience must primarily be non-scientific audiences, and the final content must be freely accessible.
Grants ranging from DKK 200,000 to DKK 3,000,000 are available for projects lasting up to three years. Funding may cover salaries, production costs, researcher fees, communication platforms, distribution activities, and costs associated with providing free public access to content. A wide range of formats are eligible, including documentaries, podcasts, journalism projects, festivals, debates, publications, animations, and social media productions.
Applications must include a project description of no more than two A4 pages describing the project, collaboration partners, target groups, and accessibility plans. A production and distribution plan, prepared using the Carlsberg Foundation template, must outline the project timeline, distribution strategy, communication activities, and any planned marketing efforts. Applicants must also submit an itemised budget using the Foundation’s budget template, including descriptions of budget items, estimated project revenues, and costs related to auditor certification.
