The Get Growing Program is seeking grant applications to support small farms in Nova Scotia through funding for infrastructure and equipment that strengthens local agricultural production.
The focus areas, include small farm development, agricultural expansion, local food production, specialized farm infrastructure, agricultural equipment support, sustainable farming, business advisory services, local market growth, farming activities in Mi’kmaw communities, and strengthening agricultural productivity in Nova Scotia.
The programme is designed to assist small farms with annual gross commodity sales below $30,000 by supporting investments that improve production capacity and farm operations. The initiative aims to strengthen local agriculture and encourage increased food production for local communities.
Eligible applicants include registered farms operating under the Farm Registration Act as well as Mi’kmaq conducting farming activities within Mi’kmaw communities. Applicants must be actively farming during the programme year and be at least 19 years of age.
The programme provides funding covering up to 50 percent of eligible project expenses, with a maximum of $5,000 available per programme year. Applicants may also apply for supplementary Business Advisory Services funding covering up to 50 percent of eligible expenses, to a maximum of $2,000 over the life of Sustainable CAP.
Eligible participants in the Get Growing Program can receive a total maximum of $12,000 over the life of Sustainable CAP.
Projects funded through the programme should contribute to the growth of local agricultural production and support the adoption of infrastructure or equipment that enhances farm productivity and sustainability.
