The Aid for the International Distribution of Spanish Films is a funding initiative aimed at supporting independent international sales agencies in promoting and distributing Spanish films across international markets.
Focus areas, include international circulation of Spanish films, international film distribution, support for independent international sales agencies, promotion of Spanish cinema, theatrical releases, digital video on demand distribution, international commercialisation of audiovisual works, cultural certification, and international audiovisual cooperation.
The program supports independent international sales agencies that promote Spanish films outside Spain through agreements with foreign distributors. Eligible projects must include the release of Spanish films either in cinemas or through video-on-demand platforms in at least one international territory.
The initiative covers promotional and international distribution activities carried out between 1 January 2025 and the publication date of the call. Agencies applying for support must have acquired international exploitation rights for the film before the publication of the call.
To qualify as an independent international sales agency, the applicant must operate in the international audiovisual commercialisation sector and must not be majority-owned or controlled by non-European companies, audiovisual communication service providers, communication groups, or public capital entities.
Eligible films include Spanish feature films and short films that either hold Spanish nationality or meet the legal conditions required to obtain it. In the case of international co-productions, Spanish production companies must hold at least a 20 percent participation share. All proposed films must possess a cultural certificate issued by the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts.
The total budget allocated for this call is 500,000 euros. Individual grants may cover up to 50 percent of eligible expenses, with a maximum grant amount of 120,000 euros per project.
Applicants must meet several eligibility conditions, including compliance with legal and regulatory obligations related to subsidies, equality regulations, disability employment quotas where applicable, and contractual acquisition of international sales rights from the film production company. Agencies must also demonstrate that they have secured at least one international distribution agreement for the release of the film outside Spain.
