The Hume Business Awards recognizes and celebrate businesses that contribute to the economic growth and wider community of Hume City through employment opportunities, innovation, and exceptional products and services.
The awards focus on circular economy practices, inclusive workforce development, innovation, economic growth, manufacturing excellence, retail success, startup development, transport and logistics excellence, visitor economy and tourism, hospitality, sustainability, workplace culture, leadership, community engagement, customer experience, operational excellence, and young entrepreneurship.
The Hume Business Awards provide local businesses with the opportunity to gain recognition from industry and the broader community for their achievements and contributions. Applications can be submitted by business owners or employees on behalf of eligible businesses operating within Hume City.
The awards feature several categories with specific criteria. The Circularity category recognises businesses implementing sustainable practices, reducing waste, and improving resource efficiency. The Inclusive Workforce category highlights businesses committed to local employment, diversity, and social procurement initiatives. The Innovation category recognises businesses introducing impactful products, services, technologies, or operational improvements. The Economic Growth category celebrates organisations that have expanded operations, increased market reach, and demonstrated strong financial sustainability.
Manufacturing awards are divided into small and large business categories, recognising operational excellence, innovation, productivity, and sustainable manufacturing practices. The Retail category focuses on customer service, innovation, business growth, and community impact. The Startup category is open to businesses operating for at least 12 months and no more than three years, with fewer than five employees and strong growth potential. The Transport, Logistics and Warehousing category recognises excellence in efficiency, workforce development, sustainability, and customer service.
Visitor Economy categories include Hospitality and Tourism, recognising businesses that deliver quality visitor experiences, support local employment, demonstrate innovation, and contribute to economic development within Hume City. The Young Achiever category is open to individuals aged 18 to 25 who have worked in a Hume-based business for at least two years and demonstrated entrepreneurship, leadership, and positive community impact.
To be eligible, businesses must be registered and operating within Hume City, hold a valid ABN, maintain all required permits and licences, and comply with all state, territory, and local government regulations. Businesses operating from multiple locations must ensure that the application reflects activities carried out specifically within Hume City.
Businesses that are chain stores, franchisors, or franchisees are generally not eligible, although independently operated small franchise businesses with 1–20 employees may apply. Charities primarily focused on fundraising, businesses associated with electronic gaming machines, and sponsors or suppliers connected to the awards program are also ineligible.
