The European Commission is requesting grant applications to support the effective implementation of key European Union legislation in the field of sustainable energy, particularly focusing on energy efficiency and building performance.
The focus areas, of the initiative include implementation of the Energy Efficiency Directive, implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, energy efficiency improvements, sustainable built environment, energy security, affordability of housing, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening resilience, exchange of best practices, technical support and tools for policy implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies, development of methodologies for data collection and measurement, integrated policy approaches, Energy Efficiency First principle, public sector leadership in energy efficiency, and building performance improvements.
The initiative addresses the critical role of energy efficiency and the built environment in tackling major challenges faced by the European Union, including competitiveness, energy security, housing affordability, and climate change. It is aligned with broader policy frameworks aimed at advancing sustainable energy transitions and strengthening resilience across Member States.
Proposals are expected to support Member States in implementing key directives by focusing on one of two main areas. One area centers on the Energy Efficiency Directive, encouraging actions that promote the Energy Efficiency First principle and strengthen the role of the public sector in achieving energy efficiency targets. The other area focuses on the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, supporting efforts to improve building efficiency, reduce energy costs, and enhance resilience through effective implementation at national, regional, and local levels.
Applicants are encouraged to promote collaboration across Member States by enabling the exchange of knowledge and best practices. They are also expected to provide technical assistance, develop practical tools, and support policy monitoring and evaluation. The initiative emphasizes the importance of accurate data collection, measurement, and integrated methodologies to assess the impact of energy policies and programs.
The total funding available for this initiative is €4,500,000. Eligible applicants must be legal entities, either public or private, established in EU Member States or other countries associated with the LIFE Programme.
